Overview
See the Field is designed with your privacy in mind. The app stores your progress locally on your device, uses lightweight analytics to improve the app, and does not sell personal information. No account is required to use the app.
What Data Is Stored
See the Field stores the following data locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework:
- User profile — your chosen display name, experience level, daily goal preference, and onboarding selections
- Progress data — quiz scores, Yards earned, Field Vision (IQ) rating, streak history, badge progress, and quest completion
- Study cards — spaced repetition review dates for concept cards you've studied
- App preferences — notification settings, sound/haptic preferences, field style, and daily goal tier
All of this data stays on your device. It is not sent to any server.
iCloud Sync
If you have iCloud enabled on your device, your profile and progress data may sync to your iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit. This is managed entirely by Apple's infrastructure. See the Field does not operate its own servers or databases.
You can disable iCloud sync for the app in your device's Settings > Apple Account > iCloud.
Analytics
See the Field uses Mixpanel to understand how the app is used in aggregate — for example, which game modes are most popular, how often users complete sessions, and where players tend to drop off. Events include session starts and completions, difficulty selections, milestone achievements, and onboarding choices.
Analytics data is associated with a random, anonymous device identifier (a UUID generated on first launch). This identifier is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID, or any personal account. We do not use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA) and do not track you across other apps or websites.
Crash Reporting
See the Field uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash logs and diagnostic information when the app encounters an error. This helps us identify and fix bugs. Crash reports may include device model, OS version, and app state at the time of the crash. No personal information is included in crash reports.
Advertising
See the Field does not display advertisements and does not use advertising identifiers.
Content Reports
If you report a problem with app content (for example, flagging an incorrect answer or unclear wording), your report is sent to a backend service (Supabase) so we can review and fix the issue. The report includes the content you flagged, your selected reason, any comment you add, and your device model and iOS version to help us reproduce bugs. No personal identifiers, account information, or usage data are sent.
Third-Party Services
See the Field integrates with the following third-party services:
- Mixpanel — anonymous usage analytics (no personal data shared)
- Firebase Crashlytics — crash reporting and diagnostics
- Supabase — content report submissions (user-initiated only)
- Apple CloudKit — iCloud sync (managed by Apple)
No data is shared with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
Notifications
See the Field may request permission to send local notifications for daily practice reminders, streak alerts, achievement notifications, and weekly summaries. These notifications are scheduled locally on your device — they are not push notifications from a server. You can manage or disable notifications at any time in the app's settings or in your device's notification settings.
Children's Privacy
See the Field does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. The anonymous analytics data described above does not identify individual users. The app is suitable for all ages and does not require age verification or an account.
Data Retention
Local data persists until you delete the app or use "Reset All Progress" in Settings. Analytics data retained by Mixpanel and Firebase follows their standard retention policies. iCloud-synced data follows Apple's standard iCloud retention policies.
Your Rights
Your local app data is entirely under your control on your device. Analytics data collected by Mixpanel is anonymous and not linked to your identity. If you have questions about your data or would like to request deletion of analytics data associated with your anonymous device identifier, contact us at the email below.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
